After a long day on the track we watched the sun sink down through a pall of thick smoke casting an eerie red glow on the surrounding hills. Mt Birregun was on fire and further to the south Tambo Crossing and Ensay were under threat. Our minds cast back to January 2003 when The Bundarrah burned. Talk around the camp that night centred on the government's green inspired mismanagement and what we could do to change it.
